The Good Participation study seeks to: 1) explore forms of contemporary youth participation that might be considered civic and/or political in nature, and 2) discern broader notions of citizenship held by contemporary youth. The research team will conduct in-depth interviews with youth from the Greater Boston Area who are engaged in explicitly civic and/or political activities. Participants will be selected on the basis of their intensive involvement in activities focused either on a specific social issue (e.g., the environment) or political issues (e.g., Tea party activists; Young Democrats). We aim to interview youth who are members or leaders of organized groups; participants in less formal networks that have a strong online component; and highly motivated individuals or “social entrepreneurs” who have launched their own efforts.
